Iron is an essential element required in many important biological functions but excess iron can be toxic. Imbalance in iron uptake and efflux is known to cause several disorders. Iron imbalance often promote inflammatory conditions by inducing expression of cytokines like IL6, IL1B, TNF alpha, TLR 4. My work is focused on Iron metabolism and inflammation due to iron dyshomeostasis.

Medicinal plants having different phytoconstituents like steroids, flavonoids, alkaloids, glycosides, phenolics, polysaccharides, terpenoids are beneficial due to the properties like anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory activity.

Tinospora species and Crinum species are used in traditional medicinal system against cough and asthma because of their anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory activity. Therefore, I am interested instudying the effect of Tinospora species and Crinum species against inflammation caused due to Iron dyshomeostasis.
